Shake it, baby!

Have you had your annual fresh peach milkshake from Whitey’s Jolly Kone (1300 Jefferson Boulevard) in West Sac? It has other good flavors (blackberry!), but the peach is made with fresh fruit and it’s so thick your tongue hurts from trying to suck up every last bit through the straw. I make special trips just for that peachy brain freeze.

I’ve been on a bit of a milkshake bender lately. I had the strawberry licuado at Lalo’s (5063 24th Street) recently, and the little sprinkle of cinnamon on top made it all the better. I’d like to try the oat and mamey versions. (Of course, if you’re lactose-intolerant, its made-to-order aguas frescas are fantástico as well.)

Vic’s Ice Cream (3199 Riverside Boulevard) serves up a retro malted chocolate version that’s awesomeness in a cup.

One of my favorite places for a shake, though, is in Jackson—Mel & Faye’s Diner (31 Highway 49/88). Its menu says it has “most flavors,” but I’m partial to the peanut-butter-banana shake. Mmmmoooo!
