Henry Sanchez is going barefoot to connect with Mother Earth.

Henry Sanchez is going barefoot to connect with Mother Earth.

After running for more than three years and 13,000 miles, Henry Sanchez will cross the border into California later this month. The environmentalist is running barefoot from Patagonia, Argentina, to Alaska, stopping along the way to plant trees, spur recycling efforts and deliver educational speeches. He’s already helped plant more than 7 million trees and recycled 2,000 tons of garbage while running through 14 countries. He’ll cross the border from Tijuana, Mexico, to San Diego on August 18, before heading north, making stops in San Jose, San Francisco and Sacramento.
