          Morning, readers!
I hope you're enjoying this sunshine, because it looks like a little
more rain is coming our way this weekend. That's OK—we still need it.
For a little something extra to enjoy on this fine day, we bring you
Poetry 99, our annual short poetry contest. Some of the winners and
honorable mentions this year are pretty impressive, so check out their
written word—and then head on over to The Bookstore in downtown Chico
tonight at 6:30 to hear them read their poems aloud.
In other news: Last week we wrote about proposed changes to The
Esplanade; on Tuesday night, the City Council discussed it and looked
over schematics and ultimately decided to take more time to talk it
over—stay tuned for a special meeting on the subject later this month.
Also, we check out the Chico Breaks the Record effort at The DownLo. If
you haven't gone over there yet, it's worth a visit.
As always, there's much more news than I can fit in this modest
newsletter. So, read on!
