A guide to post-holiday scheming

There’s an inevitable letdown in the post-holiday wind down—the wrapping paper wreckage, the fact that your organs have to somehow deal with an absurd amount of dairy transported into your body via too many glasses of eggnog. There’s also the fact that many of us are hosting disparate family members and friends. And what, exactly, is one supposed to do with cousin Betty and Aunt Freda, both of whom—duh—already binge-watched Gilmore Girls? Behold, a couple of options to keep everyone busy-ish:

Show off the city’s budding food scene with one of three Local Roots Food Tours—the Sutter District tour, the Downtown Historical tour or the Midtown Arts tour. Participants will go on a tasting tour of the respective parts of the city, getting to sample food and drink all the while. Tours last three hours and all three options are available weekdays at various times throughout the day; weekends have limited availability. Rates range from $65-$72; visit to http://localrootsfoodtours.com to find out more and reserve spots.

If you’ve got some adolescents to keep occupied, on Wednesday, December 28, Blue Line Arts (405 Vernon Street, Suite 100, in Roseville) is hosting a Holiday Create-a-thon for kids ages 6 to 10, wherein attendees will create as many New Year’s crafts as they can from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $45; visit www.bluelinearts.org to register and find out more.

The next day on Thursday, December 29, at the Crocker Art Museum (216 O Street) from 1:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., the annual Sound of Music Holiday Event event is going down. There will be a costume contest, yodeling and, of course, a singalong screening of the classic film. Better start brushing up on your “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” lyrics now. Alternatively, if you and Aunt Freda need to center yourselves after that blowout you had over Trump’s cabinet picks, Sunlight of the Spirit Books & Gifts (2314 J Street) is hosting a free meditation class on Tuesday, December 27, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Can’t make any promises, but in addition to providing mental clarity, maybe it’ll also help your stomach deal with that eggnog situation.
