Pick-your-own freestones

Head to the Chico State farm for peaches

Due to a relatively cool summer, peaches are coming a little late this year, but Chico State’s University Farm is hoping to open up its orchards to pick-your-own business starting Monday (Aug. 23). The Fay Elberta, O’Henry and J.H. Hale varieties of peaches are only $1 per pound, and will be for sale between 7 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. The farm will provide poles and buckets for picking, but you have to bring your own containers for packing your peaches home.

To get to the University Farm, take Park Avenue to the Midway and turn right on Hegan Lane. After 1.4 miles, you’ll see the first entrance to the farm on the left. Continue down Hegan and take the second entrance on the left and go all the way back to the orchards. Call the Farm Office at 898-6343 for more information.
