If, while growing up, your mother was anything like mine, she barked “Don’t slurp your soup!” more times than you care to remember. And, if you’re anything like I am, you started slurping your soup the minute she left the room. Some people might find this behavior uncouth, but at the Soup Slurp, it’s more than welcome. In fact, volunteers will prepare several vegan soups for your slurping pleasure. Plus, you’ll enjoy fresh bread and other tasty treats. Hosted by the members of the Sacramento Buddhist Peace Fellowship, the Soup Slurp is an interfaith gathering and supper that aims to raise money for tsunami-relief efforts in South Asia. The slurping will commence this Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets for the benefit are $6 for one person or $10 for two. The event will be held at the Koyasan Temple, located at 1400 U Street.
