In May 1996, Dr. Beck Weathers forked over a whopping $65,000 to take part in a commercial expedition that would lead him to the summit of Mount Everest. What he expected to be the adventure of a lifetime soon became one of the most horrific tragedies in the history of the mountain. The expedition was hit by an unexpected storm, and Weathers was left for dead. Conjuring up all his strength, Weathers was able to drag himself back to camp. He endured severe frostbite, losing his nose, right hand and part of his left hand. Weathers since has become a best-selling author, penning Left for Dead: My Journey Home from Everest, which chronicles the events of that fateful day. Weathers will share his tale this Monday at 8 p.m. at the Mondavi Center at UC Davis. Tickets are $26-$36 for adults, and $13-$18 for students and children. Call (866) 754-2787 for more information.
