Rather than try to lure you out on the town for a featured local event this week, we’d just like to wish you a warm and happy holiday celebration at home with those you love. To enhance your festivities, may we suggest tuning into some seasonal programs from Capital Public Radio?

No matter how late you have to stay up assembling toys for your kids on Christmas Eve, 88.9 KXJZ will be up with you. The station will play “Jingle Bell Jazz” continuously from 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve until 2 a.m. on Christmas morning. (But you’ll have that Matchbox Hero City Police Station totally constructed and under the tree long before that, right?)

90.9 KXPR will feature comedian Jonathan Winters performing Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol at 8 p.m. on Thursday and again at 3 p.m. on Christmas Day. It’s a perfect opportunity to cuddle up with your loved ones and a cup of hot cocoa. The station also will feature continuous holiday programming from acts as diverse as the Boston Pops, Chanticleer and La Chapelle de Quebec throughout Christmas Day.

But locals know the most swingin’ place on the yuletide dial is Mick Martin’s Holiday Blues Party on 88.9 KXJZ. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Day, Sacramento’s own bluesman will play gospel, blues and jazz to get you over the sluggish feeling that sets in after the gifts have been opened.
