Decked out in capes and ivy head wreaths, these folks are ready for the winter-solstice procession.

The winter solstice is the longest night of the year, giving you plenty of time to celebrate. If you’re looking for something to do, consider joining the Sacramento Grove of the Oak Inc. for its sixth annual Winter Solstice Procession, Wassailing and Celebration. (Try saying that three times!) The group will begin gathering at 4 p.m. this Tuesday to prepare for the procession, which will depart from 2521 D Street at 7 p.m. Those interested in participating are encouraged to dress creatively (think ivy wreaths, fairy wings and glittery makeup). Procession participants will bang on drums, ring bells, sing songs and dance their way through Midtown. After the procession, the group will enjoy a holiday potluck and a gift exchange. The event is free, but don’t forget to bring a flashlight, a dish to share at the potluck and an item for the gift exchange. Call (916) 443-2866 for more information.
