Send in the clowns

Go ahead: Clown around all you want.

Go ahead: Clown around all you want.

In my humble opinion, author Stephen King is responsible for instilling a fear of clowns in the masses. For years, that demonic clown-like creature Pennywise—found in King’s novel It—has haunted me and, I suspect, many others. For those of you who share my fear of clowns, here’s your chance to conquer that phobia. Sacramento’s Klown Alley Inc. will team up with the Carmichael Recreation & Park District for the Clown for a Day event. Professional clowns will teach would-be clowns how to apply makeup and dress and act like, well, clowns. The festivities will culminate with participants showing off their newfound talents. The all-ages program will be held this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $3.50 for general admission, $3 for seniors and students, and $1.50 for spectators. Find the red noses and water-squirting flowers at the La Sierra Community Center, located at 5325 Engle Road in Carmichael. Call (916) 485-5322 for more information.
