Go west

Looking to eat a bit outside of the Sacramento orbit? I asked Ann M. Evans, co-leader of Slow Food Yolo and a consultant on food and agricultural issues, about her favorite Yolo County eateries:

1. “Tucos Wine Market and Café. Pru Mendez has one of the best minds for combining food from the Davis Farmers’ Market, wine and cheese. Every dish is a hit. I always take guests there.”

2. “Tazzina Bistro. Rebecca Reichardt does a great job with flavor and seasonal dishes. Love to go to Woodland and delight my palate with her creations.”

3. “Sunrise Restaurant. Their Vietnamese sandwiches are one of my new lunchtime favorites, especially the vegetarian one. Pair with one of their tropical-fruit milkshakes for a divine and inexpensive fresh lunch.”

4. “The Buckhorn Steak & Roadhouse. Love the trip to Winters, and love the beef at Buckhorn. John Pickerel and Melanie Bajakian have created the perfect rub for their meats, the perfect grill, and the perfect atmosphere for a serious meal with friends or a large family outing.”
