Rock and theater don’t always make beautiful music together; usually said misconceptions fall down in the creative department, because theater people don’t do well with music outside the Broadway tradition. That said, a new production, Superhero, looks quite intriguing. The one-act play was penned by James Steck, who plays bass and keyboards for local band Birthday; it features music by that band (whose new album will be released in Europe this spring by Blanco y Negro/WEA) and by a few of their musician friends. The play details the adventures of Camden, a mix of nerd and intergalactic superhero, who battles an evil bully and saves the world. Superhero runs through this weekend. 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sunday matinee 2:30 p.m., at the The Show Below Theatre, 2130 L St. Admission is $7.
