Satire can be a tricky thing: If reality is too extreme to comprehend, satire has no ironic punch. The idea behind this street-theater-meets-role-playing group (which offers instructions on starting one’s own chapter) is to draw attention to the excesses of the wealthy friends of the current administration. Equipped with “Leave No Billionaire Behind” bumper stickers and a handful of song parodies, the Billionaires for Bush have been showing up at events like the March 20 antiwar protests in New York. The only problem is that the group’s satirical positions are awfully darned close to the real positions of ultra-wealthy right-wingers, some of whom actually believe a jobless recovery is a good thing. Still, it’s a creative response to a mind-boggling reality.
