A pear affair

A pair of pears.

A pair of pears.

Pack the family into the car and head to the Delta town of Courtland for the 32nd annual Delta Pear Fair. This year’s fair has it all: a parade, a classic-car show, pony rides, a pear-peeling contest and live music. Oh, and don’t miss the crowning of the Delta Pear Fair Queen! She’ll be selected based on poise, appearance, personality and, of course, knowledge of the pear industry. Tasty pear treats will be available for purchase. Just don’t eat too many pears, or the only thing you’ll see is the inside of a Porta-Potty. The pear fest is scheduled for Sunday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Admission to the fair is free, but you will have to pony up $5 for parking. To get to the fair, drive south on Highway 160 until you reach Courtland. Call (916) 775-2000 or visit www.pearfair.com for more information.
