Sweets for your sweetie
Consider dark chocolate as a healthful gift this Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is upon us, and you’re likely worrying about what to get your sweetie. If chocolates are your go-to, that might not be all bad for your significant other’s health, particularly if you opt for the dark varieties. The health benefits of a few squares of dark chocolate a day include reduced risk of heart attack, decreased blood pressure and insulin sensitivity and improved arterial blood flow. But not all chocolates are created equal. Here are pointers to keep in mind:
• The more cocoa solids a chocolate product contains, the more antioxidants it contributes.
• If chocolate contains fat products other than cocoa butter, they may be harmful trans fats.
