Say, “yes” to better Nutrition Facts

FDA proposes updated food labeling

In an effort to help Americans in their efforts to follow more healthy diets, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is proposing an update to the Nutrition Facts labels on food packaging. Among other changes, the new labels would adjust serving sizes to more accurately reflect normal eating habits, add a line indicating the amount of “added sugars,” and significantly increase the font size of the number of calories and the amount of servings per container. The 90-day public comment period for the proposal commenced last week. Search “Nutrition Facts” at www.regulations.gov to lend your voice in support of this long overdue update.
