Eco-friendly workout tips for the New Year

With the New Year also comes a strengthened resolve to shed those holiday pounds—it’s never too soon to start thinking about that beach bod, right? Believe it or not, there are some eco-friendly ways to approach your workout routine that will be as good for the environment as they are for you. Here are some tips to keep in mind, courtesy of

• Take it outside: Instead of running up an energy bill by using a treadmill or elliptical, make use of Chico’s many hiking and biking trails.

• Car pool to the gym: Not only will this save on gas consumption, but having a workout buddy is a great motivational tool, as well.

• Bring your own bottle: Instead of using disposable water bottles, try using a Klean Kanteen or just drink from the fountain.

• Don’t waste a good workout: Next time you’re pedaling away on your exercise bike, hook it up to a battery or generator. Soon you’ll be powering the new toys you got for Christmas and burning holiday calories.
