Don’t freak out your pet!

Chico Police have tips for keeping your pet safe this Fourth of July.

Since fireworks and Independence Day go hand-in-hand and dogs and cats are generally terrified of explosions, the Chico Police Department has tips for keeping your pet safe this Fourth of July:

• Place them in a stress-free, indoor environment rather than leaving them outside or bringing them to a celebration. Leave the radio or TV on to cover the sound of fireworks.

• Make sure your pet has an ID tag in case it runs off.

• Keep items such as alcoholic beverages, lighter fluid, matches and citronella products—in addition to any food that may be harmful—out of your pet’s reach.

• Don’t leave your pets in your vehicle, even with the windows cracked.
