Be water wise

Four easy ways to conserve our local water

The city of Chico’s tap water comes from the Tuscan Aquifer, a groundwater supply that must be protected to ensure enough water is available to local municipalities for drinking water as well as to farmers for irrigation. With that in mind, here are some not-so-obvious conservation tips:

• Save several gallons by composting veggies and fruit scraps, rather than using the garbage disposal.

• Save 150 gallons a year by shortening your shower by a minute.

• Don’t water on days when the wind would carry the water away.

• Save 25 gallons a month by shutting off the faucet while brushing your teeth.
