Grimmway goes solar

Bakersfield-based commercial-carrot producer Grimmway Enterprises recently installed more than 1,000 solar modules at one of its carrot farms near Arvin, in Kern County, according to a press release.

The company collaborated with the Denver-based solar-energy manufacturer Conergy U.S.A. to build a 230-kilowatt ground-mounted power system that will reduce the facility’s energy consumption by 40 percent and its electricity bill by 50 percent.

Grimmway Farms—as the company is commonly known—was one of 100 companies worldwide to win Pacific Gas & Electric’s Clean and Green Award in 2008.
