When empty bowls are filled

Strangely enough, the end to world hunger may begin with an empty bowl.

Strangely enough, the end to world hunger may begin with an empty bowl.

Local potters already have donated the 600 hand-thrown, food-safe bowls that guests will be filling at this year’s Empty Bowls soup luncheon. Guests will choose a one-of-a-kind bowl to use at the luncheon and to keep as a reminder that there always will be empty bowls in the world. Tickets are $25 and include a beautiful bowl and a simple lunch of vegetarian soup, bread and cookies. Proceeds from the event will benefit River City Community Services, a local nonprofit that provides emergency food and housing assistance to those in need. The event will be held this Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Find and fill your bowl at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 1300 N Street. To secure your spot at the table, call (916) 446-2627, ext. 4, or visit www.rivercitycommunityservices.org.
