In case you didn’t already know it, it’s hip to knit. Stop into a cafe during the winter months, and it’s likely that you’ll spot at least one knitting hipster, or “knitster,” if you will. For those of you who long to be a knitster, consider joining instructor Kara Mayfield for her beginning knitting class. Mayfield will teach students how to cast on, bind off, read basic patterns and identify different types of yarn. Plus, students will learn about the history of knitting. Classes will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, beginning this week and continuing through March 23. The class costs $65, which is a small amount to pay for the level of hipness that you’ll attain. Classes will be held at the Carmichael Park Clubhouse, located at 5750 Grant Avenue in Carmichael.
