Prize-winning poet Donald Revell will read at California State University, Sacramento, on March 11.

Donald Revell’s ninth collection of poetry, Pennyweight Windows: New & Selected Poems, will be published by Alice James Books on April 1, but savvy Sacramentans can get a sneak preview when he reads at California State University, Sacramento, this week. Revell’s work has earned him honors including the PEN Center USA Award for Poetry and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. His poetry is noted for its precise language and clarity of vision and a spiritual undercurrent. The title poem from his last book, My Mojave, offers a classic example: “My soul wants only to go / The black road which is the white road. / I’m not needed / Like wings in a storm, / and God is the storm.” He reads at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 11, in Room 1000 of Mariposa Hall at the university. The event is free and open to the public. Call (916) 278-6166 for more information.
