U.S. OKs killing horses

Are you so hungry you could eat a horse? Because on November 18, President Barack Obama signed a bill lifting a five-year ban on slaughtering horses for meat in the United States. Proponents argue that an increase in abuse and neglect by horse owners—largely due to the recession—and the inhumane trucking of horses to Mexico and Canada to slaughter for plates in Asia and Europe were crueller consequences than their dismembering on U.S. soil. State law prohibits the consumption of the animals in California, but when living beings are regarded as commodities, there is no humane handling of their lives. This is a case of choosing between two evils, but why do we accept any evil? Can’t we do better than that?
