UC Davis’ Good Life Garden

UC Davis’ brand-new Good Life Garden—at the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science (the garden links the culinary arts, nutrition, and wine and food sciences)—is sprouting this month with an exciting event, Growing Our Food. It’s not until September 27, but get tickets now; they’re $75, but pretend it’s your birthday or something. The all-evening event includes three fascinating speakers: local cookbook author Georgeanne Brennan, talking about creating your own potager; Ethne Clark, author of The Art of the Kitchen Garden: A Demi-Millenium of Growing and Eating, providing a historical perspective; and David Howard, former head gardener for Prince Charles’ royal estate, on organic and sustainable kitchen gardens as spectacularly maintained as at Highgrove. The evening also includes copious samples of local foods: UC Davis olive oil, Sterling Caviar, Leinert’s Honey, sausages from Morant’s and wine from several vintners, among other tastes. Tickets are available at http://goodlifegarden.ucdavis.edu/events.
