Thurs, Aug 6, American Steel

The Boardwalk, 8 p.m., $12

The early 2000s seemed like American Steel’s time to shine, but the four members officially disbanded after playing a final show at Berkeley’s infamous 924 Gilman Street in mid-2002. It would be almost five years until the whiskey-tainted musings of a possible reunion became a full-blown reality and American Steel would return to the front lines of the East Bay punk scene. And now that they’re back, they’ve got a bone to pick—and a few to break. Their new album plays like an intoxicated Joe Strummer stumbling through an East Bay punk show, singing along to every chorus even though he doesn’t know the words. Raise your glass, mates. 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale; www.americansteel.org.
