Chances are you’ve seen Bruce Licher’s gorgeously archaic graphic designs and letterpress printing for such acts as R.E.M., Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker and others, including his own bands Savage Republic and Scenic. The latter band, Scenic, exists somewhere between Sedona, Ariz., and Los Angeles, and features former Savage Republic members Licher and Robert Loveless, along with one-time Sacramento resident James Brenner—who used to play in Shiva Burlesque, the band that morphed into Grant Lee Buffalo. How’s that for sub-rosa rock history? Scenic, whose most recent CD, The Acid Gospel Experience, contains much wonderfully spacey prog-rock, will play the Capitol Garage, 1427 L Street, this Friday, October 17, with Breathless and the always swell Monks of Doom. Showtime’s 8 p.m., admission is $10, and tickets are available at Tone Vendor Records, 1812 J Street.
