The soundtrack album to Quentin Tarantino’s new film Kill Bill: Volume 1 includes a number by Romanian panpipe player Gheorghe Zamfir. It is quite mellow and will put you to sleep. The Riverboat Gamblers from Denton, Texas, however, are not mellow and will not induce snoring. On Something to Crow About, their new Gearhead Records release, the Gamblers barrel through a buttload of hand-on-the-bottle/foot-on-the-throttle anthems, even coming up with one classic anthem (“Ice Water”). They hit the Capitol Garage, 1427 L Street, the same day this paper hits the street, which is Thursday, October 2. The show commences at 8 p.m., the cover’s $7, and local faves the Bananas and FM Knives are also on the bill. Oh, and it’s all-ages action.
