Steve Turner recently hung out his shingle as a singer-songwriter, but he’s also a founding member of the Seattle band Mudhoney. Before that, he was a member of Green River, the seminal 1980s Sub Pop combo that splintered into Mudhoney and Mother Love Bone, which evolved into Mookie Blaylock, later known as Pearl Jam. Turner’s playing on a Wednesday-night bill with Nik Freitas, a Visalia native who spent a couple of years shooting pictures of skaters for Thrasher magazine before he discovered the magic of four-track recording. Freitas’ next disc, Heavy Mellow, comes out on Future Farmer Recordings in November, and Turner’s fine Roslyn Recordings CD Searching for Melody is out now. This spiffy, can’t-miss double bill hits True Love Coffeehouse, 2406 J Street, on September 17. The show starts at 9 p.m. Call (916) 492-9002 for cover.
