Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone, divining esoteric truth from a cue ball?

As the force behind such British Invasion hits as “She’s Not There,” “Tell Her No” and “Time of the Season”—along with the masterful 1968 concept album Odessey & Oracle, which contained the latter hit—the Zombies may not have conquered America with the force of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and others, but the group nonetheless won the hearts of many serious music fans with its adroit blend of jazz and pop forms. On Sunday, August 17, the Zombies’ singer Colin Blunstone and keyboardist Rod Argent (whose 1970s band Argent had a huge hit with “Hold Your Head Up”) will play the Powerhouse Pub, 614 Sutter Street in Folsom. The show starts at 9 p.m.; tickets are $12. Apparently, the show consists of large chunks of Odessey & Oracle, an album that has been compared to the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds as an artistic high-water mark.
