Site-R Raven Rock
Time magazine recently rattled Vice President Dick Cheney when it revealed the location of his secret hidey-hole, a bunker deep within Raven Rock Mountain in Pennsylvania near the Maryland border—in a review of James Bamford’s new book, A Pretext for War—which ironically ran in the magazine’s “Ronald Reagan commemorative edition.” Unfortunately, you can’t visit the Alternate Joint Communications Center, as it’s called, which dates from the Harry Truman era, on your next vacation, because it’s totally off-limits to anyone without top-security clearance. But you can glimpse it here; there are satellite photos, maps and a few photos to go along with the text. One of the photos depicts a model of one of the bunker’s shock-insulated five-story underground buildings. Wonder if Cheney’s got cable there.
