Director Peggy Shannon of the Sacramento Theatre Company—who has heretofore directed dramas and musical reviews locally—switches to comedy with We Are Family, which begins previews on Tuesday, April 17. The script is by Murray Schisgal, who won an Oscar for his screenplay for the gender-bender Dustin Hoffman comedy Tootsie (1982). This new play deals with sexual politics as well—the story revolves around a successful playwright who, after three divorces and failed affairs, decides to swear off romantic relationships with women and give men a try. Previews 8 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 12:30 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday. $10-$22. Opens 8 p.m. on April 21. Sacramento Theatre Company, 1419 H St. Through May 13. (916) 443-6722.
