You can say what you want about Kate Voegele and her brand of alternative folk-pop, but at least the girl is out there writing her own material. I know, that seems like an obvious statement, but damnit, I’ve heard so many catchy-ass pop songs by the likes of Ashlee Simpson, Jason Mraz and even Liz Phair (WTF?), only to find it was penned by some asshole who sits in front of Pro Tools all day in some ritzy Los Angeles studio eating Del Taco and jerking off stalefish. Ah, but I digress. While drawing serious sonic influence from Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morissette, Kate V. has found her own voice and come through with her new album, A Fine Mess. It’s only a matter of time before she’s dating Lance Armstrong. Also playing: Angel Taylor and Amy Kuney. This Saturday, June 6, at The Boardwalk, 9426 Greenback Lane; (916) 988-9247; $15.
