Axis Gallery managed to snag Janet Bishop, the curator of painting and sculpture at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, to be the juror for its fourth annual National Juried Exhibition. Bishop has been at the SFMOMA’s curating helm since 2000, and for the Axis exhibition selected the “most compelling work, leaving behind the impulse to craft a balanced or representative exhibition.” Of the 1,013 entries received from across the United States, 39 were accepted, including the work by locals Richard R. Ashby (Sacramento), Mark Cohen (Folsom), Bill Goidell (Davis) and Cherilyn Naughton (Sacramento).
