Ever wonder where the term hoedown comes from? It quite literally means “Put the hoes down and start the party.” Full Belly Farm celebrates its 22nd Hoes Down Harvest Festival October 3 and 4. The big day is Saturday on their Capay Valley farm, where you can grind your own grains, watch a blacksmith, learn about seed saving and composting, visit an herb yurt and eat heartily. Acclaimed farmer and author David “Mas” Masumoto will read from his most recent book, backed by taiko drummers. Tickets are $20 for adults, $5 for kids 2 to 12; half price if you ride your bike there. Learn more at www.hoesdown.org.
