Ice cream cakewalk

It's not summer in Sacramento until you've eaten a sufficient amount of ice cream. If you didn't get enough of the cold stuff in July—which, by the way, was National Ice Cream Month (thanks, President Reagan, for accomplishing something so truly important for America)—here's an event for you: the Sacramento Walking Sticks' annual Hot Walkin’ Nights Ice Cream Walk. Here's the scoop (sorry, folks, for the blatant pun): The free event starts at Vic’s Ice Cream (3199 Riverside Boulevard, www.vicsicecream.com) and ends at Gunther’s Ice Cream (2801 Franklin Boulevard, www.gunthersicecream.com). It's a pretty informal, easygoing affair: Dogs are welcome at the event and you can pick between a 5K or 10K, and choose to walk or run at your own pace. For those who want to double down, there are two event times: Wednesday, August 7, at 6 p.m. and Thursday, August 8, at 9 a.m. For more information, visit www.sacramentowalkingsticks.org.
