The Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op is teaming up with local Hmong cookbook author Sheng Yang (and her Portland-based co-author Sami Scripter) to offer a unique opportunity to learn about this cuisine. On Saturday, June 12, participants will travel to several Hmong farms in north Sacramento. After harvesting fresh vegetables and herbs, the students will gather at a Co-op demo kitchen and prepare traditional Hmong dishes. The Hmong use a dizzying array of greenery in their cooking, and Scripter and Yang are like walking encyclopedias. For more info, call (916) 455-2667 or visit www.sacfoodcoop.com.
