Sacramento is home to a thriving arts community. So, it comes as no surprise that so many local groups joined in as part of National Arts & Humanities Month to put on Artober, a monthlong celebration of the arts throughout the region. One of Artober's signature events, the Midtown Arts Festival, happens this Saturday. This year's theme is “Creative Connections,” and the event will feature tons of collaborations between those in the arts community. The festival includes a performance by dancers from the Sacramento Ballet, local arts and craft vendors, one stage for local music, one stage for performance artists, interactive art opportunities for children, and a craft-beer garden. My bet is that the thing will turn into a Saturday-afternoon block party with a bunch of free-form dancing. Saturday, October 19, from noon to 5 p.m.; free. MARRS building, 1050 20th Street; (916) 442-1500; www.exploremidtown.org/event/midtown-arts-festival.
