Frisco York and Flospot Presents Yak Ballz

Ballz to the wall.

Ballz to the wall.

Yak Ballz himself calls it “progressive rap,” which translates loosely to aggressive, nasally delivered story rhymes with a gram of introspective surrealism and about a kilo of verbal dexterity. Or maybe he just means rap that doesn&Rsquo;t suck. Who knows? But here’s a random fact to divert your attention: Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) is a member of Cardboard City, the same crew as Mr. Ballz. How that works exactly, you’ve got me. Anyway, the East Coast emcee will make a special appearance with FloSpot label-mates Slow Suicide Stimulus at Blue Lamp tomorrow to support Ballz’s latest album Scifentology II. When performing live, Yak Ballz is said to create an unforgettable mood that takes you back before the golden era, before the ’80s, before kindergarten, even. That’s right, his live show takes you back to the fetus. Don&Rsquo;t know what Yak Ballz means? Me neither, but I’m going with the literal modern English translation: the balls of a yak. Friday, May 9, 9 p.m. 21-and-over, $TK. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, (916) 455-3400, www.bluelamp.com.
