Get Bach in Winters

Matt Haimovitz seems to prefer unconventional venues, at least for an artist from the concert-hall tradition. The 31-year-old cellist will perform Bach’s Solo Cello Suites 4-6 this Sunday, October 27, at the Palms’ new location in downtown Winters; Haimovitz played the first three suites at the old Palms location, in Davis, last May. In the past, Haimovitz has worked with a number of renowned classical musicians (including Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, Shlomo Mintz, Isaac Stern, Yo-Yo Ma and Pinchas Zukerman), and he recorded for Deutsche Grammophon for 10 years. He also played on jazz bassist Rob Wasserman’s eclectic 1994 album Trios. But, on this tour, he’s playing joints like CBGBs in New York and the Palms, now located at 13 Main Street in Winters, which is due west of Davis and somewhat north of Vacaville. The show starts at 7 p.m.; cover’s $15.
