Food Stuff

The Sacramento food scene has made steady improvements, but for inspiration on the gastronomic heights yet to be attained, make a visit to San Francisco’s newly restored Ferry Building. The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market has been one of the premier showcases of this food-obsessed town since 1993. Up until now, the market operated only on Saturday mornings and Tuesday afternoons, and it bounced around to different locations. Now, the market will have a permanent home at the gorgeous Ferry Building, open Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, and the founders hope to achieve daily operations soon. There you’ll find pristine organic produce (the Central Valley is represented by Bariani Olive Oil, Capay Fruits & Vegetables and others), as well as Acme bread, Cowgirl Creamery cheeses, Hog Island oysters and Scharffen Berger chocolates. Make the trip and then bring that inspiration right back here. Market Street at Embarcadero in San Francisco, www.ferryplazafarmersmarket.com.
