Food Stuff

If that job is wearing you down, do yourself a favor and make a stop at the Saturday Davis Farmers’ Market (Central Park, 4th and B streets, Davis). No other market in the region offers quite the same restorative power. Grab a hot cup of coffee and stroll through the Norman Rockwell scene. Market-goers greet their friends, children laugh on the pedal-powered carousel, musicians pick acoustic instruments and civic do-gooders earnestly pitch their cause. The food alone is worth the trip: pristine organic produce from the rich Sacramento Valley soil, crab fresh off a Bodega Bay trawler, wild mushrooms foraged from nearby oak woodlands, gourmet sausages from the Napa Valley and all manner of sticky baked goodies. There are no bosses, in-boxes or performance assessments, just a fine community wrapping you in its warm embrace. Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon; also Wednesday, 2 to 6 p.m. (October-March) and 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. (April-September).
