Californians less gassy

Statistics revealed last week in the inaugural “California Green Innovation Index” showed that California is more energy efficient and emits fewer greenhouse gases per capita than the United States as a whole. Californians spend less on electricity, with the average monthly residential electricity bill less than half the bill in Texas. The index attributes the state’s progress to significant venture-capital investment in green technology, growth of green businesses and jobs, public support and high utility-efficiency standards. The index is an initiative of Next 10, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization founded to track economic, energy and environmental data as the state attempts to reduce its GHG emissions 25 percent by 2020, as mandated by the California Global Warming Solutions Act.
