Attic, us, Finches

The Finches attempt to blend in.

The Finches attempt to blend in.

Anyone who can rhyme the word “cups” with “drippy faucets” deserves your attention. When Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs sings that bit of poetry midway through the charming folksy-pop tune “The House with Two Front Doors,” a smile will clap itself onto your face and not let go. And Pennypacker Riggs probably will smile right back. That’s because the Finches—the Bay Area duo that also includes Aaron Morgan—put on performances that feel less like concerts and more like Sunday-evening sing-along gatherings with good friends and good stories. It’s an appropriate mood, since the vocals-and-guitar duo will appear in a Midtown attic-turned-music space when they come to town this Friday.

With songs that are unadorned but ripe, sweet but pensive, the Finches somehow pack seemingly mundane narratives with both meaning and whimsy. The show starts at 9 p.m. Suggested donation is $3-$5.
