What to expect in 2008

We know, the year has barely even begun. But the lovely folks at Wikipedia (maybe even you!) have kindly created an encyclopedia entry, complete with a calendar. Thus far, 2008 has been named the International Year of Planet Earth as well as International Year of the Potato and Sanitation. In the Chinese zodiac, the Year of the Rat will begin in February. Here are just a few things to look forward to in the year to come:

Jan. 30: An asteroid could hit Mars (1 in 75 chance)

Feb. 3: Superbowl XLII

Feb. 21: Total lunar eclipse

Feb. 29: It’s a leap year!

May 22: The long-awaited Indiana Jones sequel hits theaters

July 15-20: World Youth Day in Sydney, Australia

July 31: Bill Gates’ last day at Microsoft Corp. (on a daily basis, anyway)

Aug. 8-24: Summer Olympics in Beijing

Nov. 4: The U.S. elects a new president
