Weigh in on Aerojet cleanup

EPA accepting comment for proposed Aerojet Superfund-site cleanup

Residents of the North State are encouraged to comment on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed cleanup plan for part of the Aerojet Superfund site in Sacramento County.

The portion of the Aerojet General Corporation Superfund Site in question is the Boundary Operable Unit, an area used to manufacture industrial chemicals, pesticide and rocket-propulsion systems, according to an EPA press release. The cleanup plan will address human and ecological health risks and groundwater contamination caused by the unit. Previous EPA investigations have found the soil and soil vapor in the area to be heavily contaminated.

The EPA will accept public comments until June 7 and will host a public meeting to discuss the plan on Wednesday, May 15, at Rancho Cordova City Hall. Go to www.epa.gov/region09/aerojet to review the plan.
