Rock ‘n’ roll, eco-style

Musician/environmentalist Thom Yorke has teamed up with Friends of the Earth for its Big Ask campaign.

Originally launched in 2005, the campaign is designed to pressure politicians to pass legislation addressing climate change. Writing in to The Sun last week, Yorke explained that the drive is geared at 17 countries around Europe. He told the newspaper the United Kingdom’s Climate Change Bill looks promising and urged Prime Minister Gordon Brown to include restrictions on aviation and nuclear power.

Meanwhile, Yorke’s band, Radiohead, is trying to keep its touring schedule as eco-friendly as possible, turning down playing at a huge festival that lacks adequate public transportation. Yorke is committed to going green in his personal life, too. His latest effort is a natural-heating system that would heat his house from the ground up.
