You Can Count On Me

Rated 5.0

A young sister and brother in upstate New York lose their parents in a car wreck. Sammy (Laura Linney) is a single mom and bank loan officer who attends church and still lives in their childhood home. Terry (Mark Ruffalo) is a self-destructive drifter who visits his sibling to borrow money and bonds with his precocious 8-year-old nephew (Rory Culkin). The acting is excellent, and playwright Kenneth Longeran’s award-winning understated script and near-melodic direction melt into a seamless domestic drama of refreshing depth and unexpected turns of events.
