While the United States Senate debates a bill requiring all mutants (human beings with superhuman powers called X-Men) to register with the government, two mutant leaders differ on what action to take to preserve their autonomy. Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) runs a school for “gifted youngsters” and is trying to harness their fantastic “talents” for the good of mankind. Magneto (Ian McKellen) has other less peaceful plans for his band of outcasts. A McCarthy-esque senator (Bruce Davison) stirs up public fear and suspicion as the popular Marvel Comics Book characters clash in a supercharged allegory about intolerance and the abuse of power. The large cast features Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Directed by Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects).
