The dueling uke’s of Herb Ohta Jr. and Daniel Ho.

Is the January chill starting to get you down? The holidays are over and the long stretch of winter is really just beginning. What better way to dispel the cold and gray than some sounds from the tropics. Daniel Ho and Herb Ohta Jr. will warm you up with some songs from their latest album, Step 2: Ukuleles in Paradise. The two ukulele players may be young men but they already are accomplished masters on the instrument—Ho is a 2006 Grammy winner and 2007 Grammy nominee. Forever associated with Hawaiian music, the ukulele was developed there in the 1880s and descended from the small, four-stringed braguinhas brought ashore by Portuguese immigrants.

You can catch the sweet—nahenahe in Hawaiian—sounds of the Ho and Ohta’s uke’s this Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Asian Community Center of Sacramento, 7375 Park City Drive. For more information or to reserve tickets call (916) 393-9026.
